DOT Physical

A vital part of any hiring process is asking for a DOT physical. A DOT physical complies with the guidelines and policies of the Department of Transportation, and is required of anyone who is or will become a commercial driver or any sort. The DOT physical will test to ensure that the person is physically able to drive.
If you are in good physical condition, you will have to take this test every two years. Those with conditions that could get worse as time passes will probably be required to retest more often.
A DOT physical has a number of requirements:
• Eye Exam—To pass a DOT physical, the person tested must have 20/40 vision in both eyes, with or without correction (such as glasses, contacts, etc.). The person being tested also needs to be able to distinguish colors.
• Hearing—The DOT physical requires the person to be able to hear a forced whisper up to five feet away from them.
• Blood Pressure—To pass the physical, blood pressure levels must be lower than 160/100. Prescription medication is allowed to lower blood pressure. The person tested also must not suffer from diabetes, which requires insulin injections.
